Jet is one of the few gemstones that are organic in nature, having started as fossilized wood that formed after millions of years of decomposition under high pressure conditions. 

Jet displays an intense black color with a beautiful velvety luster.  Jet has been used in jewelry since the Neolithic times and saw its height of popularity during the Victorian era when it was worn by many royals of the time, especially during a time of mourning. Jet has also been known as black amber, as it may induce an electrical charge like that of amber when rubbed.

Natural
